On March 17, 2013 Breakfast with Boxers together with friends, family, corporate and government partners, will be sponsoring the 1rst Annual "Hope for the Homeless" 5k run at Burke Lake Park.  All proceeds from this event will go towards providing food, boxing demonstrations and encouragement to Washington DC area Homeless Residents.
Breakfast with Boxers (BWB) was formed by three-time World Champion Boxer William Joppy. Joppy's goal is to help fight homelessness by encouraging everyone to get involved in restoring those who have fallen on hard times and have ended up homeless.

Generally, homelessness is defined as a person who "lacks a fixed, regular, and adequate night-time residence." But even using this clear definition, homelessness today is difficult to measure. More and more people--especially families--are sleeping in shelters, living in their cars, and taking up residence in tent communities.

BWB is seeking to restore hope to those in need by providing warm meals, encouragement, jobs, housing, and other resources to residents who are facing such an overwhelming challenge. The average stay at a shelter is only 60 days before it is necessary to move out.

Joppy is wholly dedicated to the mission of restoring the homeless. He currently travels to Washington metropolitan area shelters providing warm meals, demonstrating his boxing skills, and sharing his life story. Using boxing as a metaphor and drawing from personal experience, Joppy enjoys talking to residents about the ups and downs in his life, his boxing career, and, most importantly, why it is necessary to get back up and fight!
